Prince Rupert, Canada - Crew familiarization with emergency system

* Root Cause
When one of the deck officers was asked by PSCO if the LRIT equipment could be possibly shut off or log out, for instance, like passing in the High risk areas, the response of the concerned officer to the question was uncertain. He can not specify whether the LRIT should be kept  “ON” or “OFF”. The deck officer’s initial answer was “No, it cannot be done to shut the LRIT off”, but he is unsure and could not support this opinion so deficiency was raised by PSCO.

* Corrections undertaken
Master conducted on board training to all deck officer(s) regarding the information from the manual operation and to the LRIT certificate for guidance. Disseminated the guidelines and procedures to the crew.
